Deep tissue therapy works directly with the muscular and fascial layers to help reduce chronic stress, manage pain, and help restore structural balance. Slow, deep pressure and/or stretching are applied to areas of chronic stress and tightness to help release trigger points and restore proper function. With a good dialogue between client and therapist, deep tissue therapy should not be uncomfortable to receive. Knowing your limits and slow deep breathing are very beneficial in assisting release.
Swedish massage is a traditional modality that is great for increasing local circulation, improving lymph flow, and relaxing sore and aching muscles. This is a wonderful choice for those needing some pampering.
Pregnancy is a wonderful time to receive a relaxing and therapeutic massage. As your body changes with each new stage of pregnancy, stress and tension can build as your body compensates and makes room for a new life. During a prenatal massage your comfort will be first priority. Sarah integrates different modalities to create a session that will help not only your body and mind … but your baby’s too!
This technique works with the layers of fascia that surround each muscle fiber (myofascia). Through gentle stretching and soft tissue manipulation, along with feedback from the client, this form of therapy can be an effective way for treating chronic tightness, pain, and structural imbalances. Because everything in the body is connected through fascia, restrictions in one area of the body can lead to restrictions and tightness in other areas, including the craniosacral system. This approach works best with a series of regular treatments as each treatment builds upon the next. This is an interactive form of therapy, so please intend on some dialogue and a little stretching homework.
Zen Shiatsu is an ancient form of bodywork originating from Japan that is based on the meridian system. Traditionally done on a futon style mat, Shiatsu incorporates specific point work and stretching along meridians which help restore balance to the systems of the body and improve the overall flow of chi. Shiatsu works in treating a full spectrum of ailments and imbalances, from body pains to digestive disorders. It is also extremely relaxing and restorative. A short assessment is done at the beginning of each session to determine the appropriate course of treatment. Cupping can be a great adjunct therapy for those experiencing acute or chronic sinus or
CranioSacral Therapy is a subtle technique that works to release restrictions in the cranialsacral system. The craniosacral system involves the bones of the cranium and sacrum, the membranes that attach to the bones, and the cerebrospinal fluid(CSF) that brings nourishment to the spinal cord and brain. Restrictions can occur due to physical and/or emotional trauma or stress, which can interfere with the delicate balance of the central nervous system and your overall health and well-being. Whether you plan to give birth at home or in a hospital setting, a birth doula will provide you with continuous labor support no matter which route you take.
Studies have shown that having the care of a doula enhances the birth experience and lowers the chances of medical intervention and caesarian rates. A doula acts by mothering the mother, helping her to breathe, relax, and guide her into comfortable positions when necessary. She is also a tremendous resource for education about pregnancy and childbirth. Having a doula does not replace the valuable role of the father or birth partner; the doula simply acts in whatever way she is needed.
As a birth doula, Sarah provides continuous support and care for women during labor, as well as 2 prenatal visits and a postpartum visit. Prenatal and postnatal massage is also available to the mother and is provided during labor as well.
If you are interested in having Sarah as your doula, please contact her 6-8 weeks before your scheduled due date. Rates are based on a sliding scale. Feel free to call 802-922-3918 with any questions you may have
